Is the freight recession over?

Can we call the 3-year freight recession over?

I think so!

Sure, diesel has soared recently (actually, the weekly jump was the biggest on record), but TL pricing is up 17.5% YOY without fuel, so yes, I think the recession is over.

Here are the facts: freight pricing is up dramatically, and capacity is thin, so freight budgets will be blown open this year. I hope everyone saw this coming and adjusted because we’ve been calling it out for months now.

This shouldn’t be a surprise, but I guarantee tempers will flare in a couple of weeks when we reach the end of Q1 shipping, and trucks will be hard to find. Please don’t wait until 3/30 and 3/31 to try and achieve Q1 KPIs!

Here’s some quick budget math for you:

• LTL pricing up about 7% YOY, plus another 6.3% with FSC = UP 13.3%!

• TL pricing up about 17.5% YOY, plus another 8.75% with FSC – UP 26.2%!
